Mary "Ann" Overton, age 88, of Bethpage, TN passed away at home where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law on Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to her parents, Henry and Biddye Allred on February 11, 1936. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Peter Allred and Biddye Sera Allred and her husband, Wardean Wright Overton, Sr.
Ann is survived by her children, Ward (Kelly) Overton, Jr. and Debbie (Larry) Gregory; her grandchildren, Kelsey Overton and Wright Overton III. She is also survived by her siblings, Betty Jane Hammond and Victor Allred.
Early in Life, her family moved from Florida to middle Tennessee due to her father working on highway construction. She attended Hartsville High School before moving to Gallatin where she graduated from Gallatin High School in 1954. She also finished her schooling by taking business courses in Nashville.
Her first job was in the office at Eaton (Yale and Town) in Gallatin, TN. This is where she met Wardean. They were wed on January 16, 1958. She later worked at the Farmers and Merchants Bank in Bethpage, the Tennessee Valley Authority Hartsville Nuclear Plant and the Ruth Carter Senior Center in Gallatin. She retired from public work in 1997 to be with Wardean on the farm.
Ann was a member of Willow Grove Methodist Church. She enjoyed helping Wardean with farm and garden activities. She loved tending to the farm animals which occasionally included bottle fed pet goats and deer. She enjoyed reading and keeping up with the local newspapers. She also attended many square dances and fiddler jamborees with Wardean.
She always had a smile and kind word for everyone. Mama will be missed every second of every day - thanks for being the greatest Mama and best friend ever. Will miss you forevery, sweet dreams.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Overton will be conducted Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 12:00 PM from the chapel of Woodard Funeral Home with Bro. James Garrison officiating. Interment will follow in Lower Bethpage Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 2:00 until 8:00 PM and on Sunday from 9:00 AM until service time at 12:00.
The family have entrusted Woodard Funeral Home with the care of their loved one.
