Joey Dwight Sloan, age 71, of Westmoreland, Tennessee, finished his race and entered into eternal rest with Jesus on April 4, 2024. Born and raised in the Eulia community of Macon County, Joey attended school and graduated from Macon County High School in 1971 and continued his education graduating from Volunteer State Community College. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he honorably and proudly served his country as a weapons specialist stateside as well as overseas in Turkey. He retired from the USPS, serving as a letter carrier in the Hendersonville, TN area, in 2018.
Joey loved baseball and was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. He loved to talk and tell stories, making friends out of strangers, cutting up with folks for a smile and a laugh, and pinto beans and cornbread. Of all the things he loved in this life, there is nothing that came close to the love that he had for his wife of 42 years, Susie Sloan, who he leaves behind. Joey also leaves behind a large family of in-laws, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins and friends who will miss him greatly.
Joey was preceded in death by his daddy, Wiley Woodrow Sloan; mother, Dorothy Graves Hammock Sloan; brothers, Larry and Tim Sloan; sister, Bonnie Adcock; and special aunts and uncles.
While the pain of losing Joey will last during this life for his family and friends, we do not grieve without hope because of his, and our, faith in the promise of God. Joey knew that hope, was prepared, and ready to meet his Lord and Savior. We rejoice in our shared faith with the confidence that we will see Joey again, and now he is pain free, happy, and strong with Jesus and reunited with his mother and daddy, brothers and sister whom he has missed for so long.
