Joseph Belvie 'B.J.' Sloan

Joseph Belvie (J.B.) Sloan, recently of Lebanon, OH, (formerly of Westmoreland, TN and Indiana) passed peacefully on March 5, 2012. He was born May 1, 1922 in Macon County, TN to Johnnie Claudie (Jack) Sloan and Laura Bell (Harrison) Sloan. He lived in Indianapolis for 54 years and was an active member of American Legion Wayne Post #64 for 43 years where he loved to shoot pool with his Veteran buddies. He served almost 5 years in the U.S. Army, participated in Operation Overlord, the invasion of Normandy in WWII, the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes and was in Aachen, Germany when the war ended in 1945. He received 4 bronze stars and other medals.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Naomi Avelene (Hammock) Sloan; and by his first granddaughter, Kimberly Anne (Godsey) Kluemper; and his brothers and sisters, Wiley Woodrow & (Dorothy) Sloan, Hethy Caroline & (Roy) Miller, Ivy Lillian & (Hartford) Minnick, Lela Margaret & (Noel) Knight, Dixie Gordon & (Everett) Harper, Lillie Gustine & (Forrest) Hammock, Mary & (John) Thompson, Emma & (Woodrow) Sullivan, Albin Leavel & (Noel) Crook, Leticia Ann Sloan and Obie Odell Sloan.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. & (Jim) Godsey and Barbara J. & (Bob) Gilmore, five grandchildren: Jimmy Godsey, Laura & (Tim) Harper, Gina & (Trent) Bradburn, Tom & (Lesli) Norris and Mike Norris, ten beautiful great-grandchildren and by his beloved tomcat Smokey.
Visitation will be Friday, March 9th from 4PM-8PM and from 9:30AM-service time on Saturday at Woodard Funeral Home, 5591 Hwy 31 E, Westmoreland, TN 37186. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 10th at 10:30AM from chapel of Woodard Funeral Home followed by a graveside military service in Siloam Cemetery, Westmoreland, TN.

NOTE: In lieu of flowers the family request you make memorial contributions in the form of donations to Siloam Baptist Church Cemetery. These can be made at Woodard FH.
